The Claridge Hotel – Emergency Stabilization and Reconstruction
Location: Atlantic City, NJ
Client: The Claridge Hotel
Design Professional: Czar Engineering
This project addressed a newly identified area of displaced masonry on the west elevation of the North Tower at The Claridge Hotel. Building on a previously completed scope at another location, our team was engaged to reconstruct the displaced masonry and prevent further deterioration.
Scope of work:
- Removed interior drywall and exterior sheathing between windows to allow backside evaluation of the displaced masonry.
- Conducted detailed inspection with Czar Engineering and installed temporary stabilization measures based on findings.
- Installed temporary support beams from inside adjacent hotel rooms to safely support masonry above the displaced area.
- Removed displaced cast-stone units, salvaging usable pieces and identifying units for replacement due to deterioration.
- Cleaned exposed structural steel, applied zinc-rich primer, and installed peel-and-stick waterproofing membrane flashing with proper terminations and end dams.
- Furnished new cast-stone units to match the existing precast elements that could not be salvaged.
- Reset cast-stone pieces using new stainless-steel hardware, aligned with adjacent construction.
- Installed new backer rod and sealant at joints between precast units and windows.
