Location: Smithfield Township, Monroe County, PA
Client: Clark Contractors, Inc.
Design Professional: Barry Isett & Associates, Inc.
This project involved targeted structural repairs at the Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center, focusing on the reinforcement of existing concrete beams to mitigate long-term deflection and enhance structural performance.
Key aspects of the scope included:
Concrete Surface Preparation & Repair:
- Removal of deteriorated concrete and surface contaminants.
- Patching of spalled or irregular areas using concrete repair mortar.
- Surface profiling to ICRI CSP-3 standards for optimal bonding.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) Installation:
- Application of precured CFRP strips to the underside and sides of existing concrete beams.
- CFRP strips were bonded using high-strength, moisture-tolerant epoxy adhesives in accordance with ASTM standards.
This limited-scope structural rehabilitation project exemplifies precision engineering and material science integration to extend the service life of public infrastructure without disrupting its function or compliance.
